Why publish the planner notebook?
A generated workout should not feel like six exercise names pulled from a hat. The user deserves to know why a movement appeared, why two related lifts do not use the same weight, why a bodyweight exercise asks for repetitions instead of pounds, and why the plan sometimes removes an exercise completely. This page records those decisions in ordinary language so the workout can be checked against the explanation.
The notebook also creates accountability. If the app behaves differently from the rule described here, that difference is a bug or an undocumented change. It should be investigated and recorded on the public updates page, not hidden behind vague claims of personalization.
Each assessment answer has one or more specific jobs

Worked example: four days in a cables-and-weights gym
Consider an experienced user who chooses weight loss, four training days, and a facility with cable stations, machines, and free weights. The schedule produces chest and triceps, back and biceps, lower body, and a combined core-and-cardio day. The facility opens cable and machine options without requiring them for every exercise. Experience allows more compound variations, while the weight-loss goal keeps a meaningful conditioning component.
If recent squat, bench, and deadlift numbers are supplied, they inform related opening movements. They do not get copied to every exercise. A dumbbell press uses an each-hand load, a machine uses its own setting, and a later triceps exercise receives a lighter, exercise-specific target. The first week aims to keep about three clean repetitions available because the user is learning how the suggested loads feel on the equipment in front of them.
The six movements must be distinct. A triceps pushdown cannot silently appear twice, and switching the facility must rebuild the exercise cards instead of leaving a stale cable movement inside a no-weights session. Those exact failure cases are now covered by the site's automated checks.
Worked example: three days with no weights
A new or returning user choosing three days and no weights receives targeted push, pull, and lower-body sessions, with core and conditioning placed where they fit. The planner does not label those days as full body. Every movement must be possible without a dumbbell, barbell, cable stack, or machine, and the warm-up uses mobility or a controlled stretch rather than pretending an external load exists.
Push-ups, split squats, planks, and other bodyweight movements record repetitions or time. Difficulty can progress through range, tempo, leverage, unilateral work, or additional clean repetitions. A bodyweight max set stops with one or two good repetitions still available; the goal is useful feedback, not collapse.
Red and yellow body areas change the exercise list differently
Yellow means the area is hurting or needs caution. The planner responds with a lighter start, a supported variation, a shorter range, or additional guidance when a reasonable generic modification exists. Red is treated as a no-go for the day. Exercises whose region list includes that area are filtered out rather than displayed with a warning that the user must remember to ignore.
Removing a movement can leave too few safe generic exercises for the selected muscle group. When that happens, the app says so. It does not fill the empty space with an unrelated lift or claim to design rehabilitation around a disability. Individual medical and rehabilitation decisions belong with an appropriately qualified professional.
Why later lifts use different loads
A workout is not six independent strength tests. The opening compound movement receives the freshest effort. Related exercises later in the session use a lower share of the available baseline because the working muscles have already accumulated fatigue. A squat and a split squat therefore should not display the same number simply because both train the legs.
This is especially important in week one. The effort target should stay reasonably steady throughout the workout instead of beginning comfortably and ending at failure. A later load can increase in a future session after the user records that the prescribed movement, repetitions, and technique were genuinely easy.
What happens after an exercise is logged
- Too easy: the next target increases by the smallest useful step or progresses repetitions, tempo, or leverage.
- Challenging: the current target is retained because it produced the intended effort.
- Too hard: the load or difficulty is reduced, or the user is directed to stop earlier with clean form.
- Blank load: the prescribed working load is recorded so typing does not block progress through the workout.
- Unchecked movement when advancing: the planner treats the session as too easy rather than trapping the user on the same day.
These rules are intentionally small and understandable. They cannot see bar speed, joint position, breathing, sleep, nutrition, medications, or motivation. The displayed explanation tells the user why a target changed and preserves the option to choose a different safe load.
Cycle timing follows progress, with a four-week minimum
The first cycle cannot end before four weeks, because one or two workouts are not enough information to judge a routine. Body weight is checked about every two weeks. A single weigh-in does not automatically trigger extra punishment work; the app first points to consistency, normal weight fluctuation, recovery, everyday movement, and sustainable eating habits.
After the minimum, the cycle continues until its progress milestone is reached. Updated strength numbers can be entered after cycle one. The timeline is an organizational tool, not a promise that every person will reach a particular weight on a particular date.
How to check the planner yourself
- Switch facilities and confirm that every exercise uses equipment available in that category.
- Open the pictures and confirm the named movement matches the equipment and start-to-finish positions.
- Compare warm-up weight, working weight, and rest instead of treating them as one instruction.
- Mark a body area red and confirm movements that stress it disappear.
- Log the same exercise as easy, challenging, and hard to compare the next-step explanation.
- Report any mismatch through the contact page.
